Softies for Mirabel 2009

Well today I read on the Meet me at mike's website that they were starting their annual appeal for softies to donate to the Mirabel Foundation.

The foundation aims to help children who are in families of substance abuse victims.

Well that was a good enough reason for me to donate my latest creation.

If you want to read more pop over to http://www.meetmeatmikes.com.au/ and you can read all about it.

Here's a photo of my donation to the cause.

One of my toys has been found Drop #275

I was so chuffed today to read on the toy society blog that my toy drop had been found.

You can read the details here ...

http://thetoysociety.blogspot.com/2009/08/drop-275-has-been-found-from-doc-to.html

What is even more exciting is to see Matilda's gorgeous smiling face (who is a mega cute little munchkin imho) alongside my creation.

What's the icing on the cake I hear you ask? Well it's the fact that Matilda's mum has now also joined the toy society movement and become a toy dropper as well.

Just goes to show that these random acts of kindness do have a wonderful ripple effect :)

Granny squares blanket

Well I have been madly making granny squares with my crochet hook. This is the reason that I have not made any softies to give away these past couple of weeks.

Being a novice in the crochet department I am quite chuffed at my ability to churn the squares out. I have found that doing granny squares is a great portable craft. I can stuff my current half completed square into my bag and carry it around with me so that when I have some free time I can continue on with finishing the square.

Another way that I take some crafting stuff around with me to fill in any idle time is to have a whole lot of blank dolly faces and some embroidery threads. I can then embroider faces when the mood strikes.

I have successfully googled how to join granny squares and next weekend when I can block out a couple of hours of free time I plan on joining my blanket together.

Well that's all from me for now.

Too cute to give away

Well I have discovered the joys of op shopping when it comes to crafting supplies. Went to one of the local op shops and scored heaps of crafty supplies for next to nothing. My favourite find was some wool felt pieces in white and yellow for the princely sum of $2, what a bargain.

I was inspired to make the following fellow. This is my second attempt at making a soft toy without a pattern of any sort and I would like to think that I am improving, albiet slowly.

Toy monster

His head is a little wonky. I have to work on learning how to close my creations neatly.

This little fellow was earmarked as a toy society drop by I think I have fallen in love so I will hang on to him for a little while.

That's it for today.

Another toy society drop

Well here is today's entry. Another toy society drop.

This cute dolly was left at a Wollongong University Carpark. Hopefully some nice person finds her and loves her.

Here's a photo of the latest item I've given away for the toysociety.

Well it's a new day and I've managed to co-erce two family members into dropping off some more of my homemade toys. You should see another two toy society drops showing on the website soon.

This weekend is promising to be a jam packed effort with no less than 4 booked events over three days. Not sure how as a family we will pack it all in. Thankfully it's a long weekend so we have the extra day to stuff everything in.
